A pair of Armstrong Whitworths
The two locomotives side byt side. Interesting how much larger the OO (4mm:1ft) version is than the HO (3.5mm:1ft) model. Both models are built from Mercian Models Etched brass kits.
The OO model has light weathering to give it the look of a working loco. Bemo couplings are fitted.
The OO mechanism is a serious beast with a big Mashima can attached to a High Level models 108:1 gearbox topped with a flywheel. Even without running in it will crawl, taking 30 seconds to cover 1 metre. Top speed is a respectable shunter dawdle.
In HO, the model is ex-works. No couplings are fitted yet as the owner hasn't decided what he wants to use. This kit is designed for the Belgiun market and uses more parts and is generally slightly more accurate.
The chassis is conventional with a Mashima motor and Ultrascale gearbox. It runs nicely enough though, especially now I have shortened the snadpipes so they don't touch the rails on corners !
